Free Seed Saving Resources

This seed bank is a part of the Victory Gardens for Peace Initiative which helps communities work towards resilience through promoting sustainable backyard and community gardening. We are located in the town of Mendocino in Northern California. We are a project of Ecology Action, a 501(c)(3) non- profit which works with communities worldwide to better feed themselves while conserving resources and building soil.

Throughout most of human history communities saved their own seed. Most of the cultivated plants that we grow today were brought about through generations of care from backyard gardeners and community farmers who nurtured the sacred relationship between people and seed. In the last 100 years we have lost an incomprehensible amount of variety and diversity in our biosphere and our cultivated plants. The lost art of seed saving is still alive and we need to reclaim this sacred dance to preserve what is left as the foundation for greater future abundance. We hope you find these resources helpful and that you find success in saving seeds!
